Prince Harry will be at Prince Philip s funeral, to say a final goodbye to his beloved grandfather. This morning, the royal family confirmed that Prince Harry would be flying from California to the UK for the memorial service, but his wife Meghan will not be coming with him.
The 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh who passed away at Windsor Castle on Friday 9 April spent almost a month in hospital earlier this year, where he was treated for an infection and a heart condition, but he was determined to get home.
A source told
The Daily Telegraph newspaper:
“He spent most of the four weeks he was in hospital trying to get home. They operated on his heart in a bid to give him a little longer, maybe with the 100th birthday in mind. But he didn’t really care about that. There is no way he would have wanted to die in hospital.”
Gun salutes in tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh are to take place across the UK, in Gibraltar and at sea on Saturday, as the nation mourns his death at the age of 99.
Buckingham Palace said Philip died peacefully in his sleep at Windsor Castle on Friday, two months before his 100th birthday, leaving the Queen and the royal family “mourning his loss”.
The Earl of Wessex, youngest son of the Queen and Philip, was seen arriving at the castle by car with wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, at around 11am on Saturday, while the Prince of Wales was with his mother in Windsor on Friday.
