Bahrain celebrates on Tuesday its fifth National Sports Day, organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee annually in implementation of a decision by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Olympic Committees to hold a “Sports Day” in all GCC countries on the second Tuesday of February.
Under directives from His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Chairman of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the National Sports Day will be celebrated this year virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision is also in support of the national efforts undertaken by Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to address the pandemic.

Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al-Romaihi lauded the dedicated patriotic efforts and the honourable sacrifices made by the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) to safeguard security, peace and stability.
Al-Romaihi also praised the BDF’s effective role as a main pillar for building the nation, and enhancing its progress, in light of the comprehensive development march spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister.

Founded in 1968, Bahrain Defence Force is now one of the formidable forces in the region.
Since the graduation of its first batch on 5 February 1969, the BDF has proved its status as the bulwark of the nation, and the home of brave servicemen who are constantly ready to make all sacrifices for the sake of defending the homeland.
The force, which consists of Royal Bahraini Air Force, Royal Bahraini Army, Royal Bahraini Navy and the Royal Guard, is now comparable to the most advanced armies in armament and training.
The achievements are all possible, thanks to the constant follow-up and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, and Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the BDF Commander-in-Chief.

Bahrain Defence Force personnel are the “protective shield of the nation, and are always a source of pride of everyone,” said His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday marking the BDF’s 53rd anniversary.
“Bahrain is proud of the efforts exerted by all the BDF affiliates to protect the Kingdom’s achievements, national unity and the citizens’ security with competence, patriotic spirit and determination,” said HM the King.
The Supreme Commander was receiving in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, the Commander in Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, at the Safriya Palace yesterday.
