President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has expressed appreciation for the Catholic Church’s role in education in Sri Lanka.
He gave his tribute while praising the hard work and dedication of all those involved in the establishment and growth of Benedict XVI Catholic Institution of Higher Education (BCI) in Negombo. The service rendered by BCI is very much in keeping with the historical role played by the Catholic Church in educating the youth of this country through its island-wide network of schools since colonial times, said President Rajapaksa at the inauguration ceremony of registering the first batch of undergraduates on Jan. 15 in Negombo.

COLOMBO (News 1st): Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith made a special request from the Christian community today during a media briefing held at the Archbishop’s official residence.
“Christmas should be celebrated this year remembering the poor, who have been severely affected by Covid-19” his eminence requested from the people.
The Cardinal stressed the need to “concentrate on a spiritual celebration of Christmas and encourage everyone to share the joy of Christmas with those brothers and sisters who have been deprived of joy and happiness due to the Covid 19 pandemic.”
“Priests have been advised to celebrate Christmas only in the non-lockdown areas, with 50 per celebration.” Cardinal Ranjith informed.
