Devizes Fire Station recently received a call about an electrical fire in a conservatory on Avon Road. But a high number of parked cars in Avon Road and nearby Salisbury Street and Beauclerc Street hampered the arrival of firefighters on the scene. Luckily, a second fire engine made up of on-call firefighters had managed to reach the property in time. If they hadn’t been on duty, the occupiers would have been forced to wait for a crew from Pewsey or Calne. Other motorists have raised concerns about poor parking across Devizes and the surrounding area. Boyd Jackson is a familiar sight in the town centre and drives an old electric milk float.

A potential buyer for a shuttered 300-year old property visited by generations of musical artists and celebrities is seeking to return the site to its former glory.
Avon Road Partners, a small family partnership group based out of New Hope, Pennsylvania, has entered into an agreement with Stockton Borough to purchase the Stockton Inn, which closed its doors in 2017.
The group presented its vision for the redevelopment of the property in December, which includes a $15 million investment to revitalize the inn’s restaurant and rooms, reestablish an outdoor garden, create a wellness center and construct a 17,000-square-foot, three-story hotel with 28 guest rooms.
