GEDSB welcomes new superintendent

Grand Erie District School Board has appointed a new superintendent of education. April Smith will be filling the role effective February 1. “I’m thrilled to welcome April to our Senior Administration team,” JoAnna Roberto, director of education, said in a press release. “April is a highly respected educator and administrator with a wide range of experience. She brings a wealth of knowledge in key areas to lead our board strategically, and to support Grand Erie’s students, families, staff and stakeholders.” Smith joins Grand Erie from Avon Maitland District School Board where her leadership and mentorship experience spans 20 years, beginning as a secondary school teacher before moving into administrative roles.

Funding for the project came from the County, and included renovating a classroom at the school. The space now contains cubbies, a washroom, change area, outdoor fenced area and some other modifications. AMDSB say people should respect students time during online learning

Kincardine, ON, Canada / ShorelineToday.ca Jan 7, 2021 6:17 AM The Avon Maitland District School Board is asking for everyone in the community to support online learning for students. Under the Province’s shutdown, students in grades K-8 will be learning from home until January 11th, while students in grades 9-12 will be online learning until January 25. The online learning will see students live learning online with educators for 225 minutes per day, while doing independent learning for another 75 minutes per day. AMDSB is asking local employers to respect the educational time needed for students and do not use the time to bring in students for extra shifts as attendance will be taken each day.

Tentative collective agreement reached between AMDSB and OSSTF SHARE ON: AMDSB officials say the two sides reached a tentative collective agreement late last week. They say details of it must be kept confidential until both parties ratify the agreement. Ratification meetings and votes are expected to be held in January or February. The tentative agreement brings all secondary teachers working for AMDSB together into one document.
