One week home quarantine for those entering Surat

Gandhinagar, March 18 : The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced that people entering the city will have to be under home quarentine for a week, after the Diamond City reported more than 350 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.
The SMC, under the powers conferred to the corporation through Clauses 2, 3 and 4 of the Gujarat Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and also through the health department s notification, has mandated everybody entering the city to keep themselves home quarentined for seven days and remain in isolation inside the house. If they display any symptoms, they should immediately get tested for Covid-19.

The state of Gujarat reported a total of 890 new cases on Monday (March 15). With more active cases going up with each passing day, it reported its single-highest jump in Covid cases in 2021 on Monday.
Ahmedabad, meanwhile, has contributed significantly to the active cases with 205 more positive cases. With this, the mark of 200 was crossed after a long gap of 83 days. Not only in Ahmedabad, but many other prominent cities of other major states have also seen a rise in cases as people have not been following the social distancing norms and other COVID protocols.

AHMEDABAD: A city-based doctor couple – Dr Bela Dave, a professor at AMC-run dental college in Khokhra, and Dr Dilip Dave, a pathologist running a lab in Bapunagar area – tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday. The duo had completed both the vaccination doses as healthcare workers (HCWs).
The couple told the media on Monday that they had no major symptoms, and have home quarantined themselves. The duo had got tested as part of their duty and had no apparent symptoms associated with the viral infection.
It is the second instance in the past three days where the doctors who have completed both the shots have got infected with the virus.

To contain the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Gujarat government today decided to increase the night curfew timings in four major cities of the state by two hours.
The curfew will now remain in force in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot from 10 pm to 6 am, an official statement said.
