With warmer weather right around the corner, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is reminding riders that no ice is safe ice.
Landon French, Chief Executive Officer with the Federation, says travelling on the marked trails is your safest bet. In March the sun will be shining and there will be warmer conditions, which will affect the structure of the ice. This year due to the lack of an early, strong freeze, French says the ice didn’t set up as well as it could. Conditions can change throughout the day, and club volunteers will work to mark out hazards. He says it is important to pay attention and ride according to the conditions.

The Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs has signed a memorandum of understanding for Hastings County Trails.
This means the Hastings Heritage Trail from Lake St. Peter to the Trent River in south Hastings will be accessible with OFATV permits. This will connect the trails administered by the Renfrew County ATV Club with those in Hastings County. OFATV President Soren Klemmensen says the OFATV plans to connect all ATV clubs to a trail system similar to that used by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, and hopes one day to have it stretch across Ontario. He says this addition will bring more economic growth to the area and will make it easier for people to ride on the trails without the need for excessive permits.
