TORONTO Ontario optometrists want to join the COVID-19 vaccination effort, calling on the province to allow them to administer injections. Members of the Ontario Association of Optometrists have been in talks with the Ontario government to amend the Optometry Act that currently prevents them from giving injections, keeping them off the list of those able to aid in the vaccination rollout plan. âThere are 2,500 optometrists across the province in 200 communities,â Dr. Sheldon Salaba, president of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, told CTV s Your Morning on Monday. âI would say thereâs a substantial portion of us that are willing to help with this initiative.â
