Ontario announces new legislation in fight against human trafficking

TORONTO The Ontario government has announced new legislation in the fight against human trafficking, focusing on strengthening the protection of exploited children and providing additional tools to law enforcement officers. Speaking at a news conference held at Queen’s Park on Monday, Premier Doug Ford said the “first of its kind” legislation in Canada builds on the $307 million investment previously made by the province in its anti-human trafficking strategy. The new legislation and amendments to existing legislation help raise awareness, protect victims, support survivors, and hold offenders accountable, Ford said alongside Solicitor General Sylvia Jones and Associate-Minister of Children and Women’s Issues Jill Dunlop on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
