AFP SHARE Geneva: The UN Human Rights Council will consider launching a broad, international investigation into abuses in the latest Gaza conflict and also into systematic abuses, according to a proposal tabled on Tuesday. The draft resolution will be discussed during a special session of the council on Thursday, requested amid 11 days of deadly violence between Israel and armed Palestinian groups in Gaza this month. Almost a fifth of people in Gaza do not have access to clean water after bombardment - Oxfam Format 25 May 2021 Four hundred thousand people in Gaza – almost a fifth of the population - do not have access to a regular clean water supply after 11 days of bombardment devastated electricity and water services and severely affected the three main desalination plants in Gaza city, Oxfam warned today. All of Gaza’s 2.1 million people have been affected by Israel’s bombing that took 240 lives, destroyed or damaged 258 buildings containing nearly 1,042 homes and commercial offices, and devastated vital public services. Around 100,000 Palestinians were displaced by the bombing and are attempting to return home. Even if their homes are still standing, life will not be normal.

Secretary-General s Remarks to the General Assembly Meeting on the Situation in the Middle East and Palestine [as delivered] - occupied Palestinian territory

Secretary-General’s Remarks to the General Assembly Meeting on the Situation in the Middle East and Palestine [as delivered] Format [Watch the video on webtv.un.org] The past ten days have witnessed a dangerous and horrific surge in deadly violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly Gaza, and in Israel. I am deeply shocked by the continued air and artillery bombardment by the Israeli Defence Forces in Gaza. As of 19 May, this had claimed the lives of at least 208 Palestinians, including 60 children, and injured thousands more. The continued indiscriminate firing of rockets by Hamas and other militant groups towards population centres in Israel, resulting in at least 12 fatalities including two children, and hundreds of injuries, is also unacceptable.
