(CNSNews.com) – As pushback continues against Ben & Jerry’s decision to stop sales in the territories disputed between Israel and the Palestinians, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday set in motion a process that could result in the state being prohibited from buying any assets in the ice cream maker’s British-based parent company.
In Texas, meanwhile, the state comptroller of public accounts announced he has instructed his staff to determine if the actions by Ben & Jerry’s and its owner, the consumer goods conglomerate Unilever, would require a bar on the Lone Star State entering into contracts with them.

RAMALLAH, July 23 (Xinhua) Palestine on Thursday welcomed a decision by the United Nations Human Rights Council to form an independent international commission to investigate Israeli violations of Palestinian rights.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the council s decision reflects the international community s persistence to implement international law and protect Palestinian human rights. Forming the commission came in implementation of Palestine s decision in the council during its special session number 30, the statement said, adding that the commission will look into Israeli violations of humanitarian and international human rights law in the Palestinian territories since April 13.
Unilever remains fully committed to Israel despite Ben & Jerry s withdrawal plan Details 23 July 2021
Unilever CEO Alan Jope said during a recent investor conference call that it remains fully committed to its business in Israel. This came shortly after its subsidiary Ben & Jerry s announced on 19 July that its ice cream will no longer be sold in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The ice cream brand said doing so would be inconsistent with [its] values for the ice cream. This was a decision that was taken by Ben & Jerry s and its independent board in line with an acquisition agreement that we signed 20 years ago, Jope said during the call. He added that Unilever has always recognised the importance of that agreement.
The iconic, famously woke ice cream company, Ben & Jerry’s, announced on Monday that it will no longer sell its product in “Occupied Palestinian Territory.” As the company explained, “We believe it is inconsistent with our values for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to be sold in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).” However, they added, “Although Ben & Jerry’s will no longer be sold in the OPT, we will stay in Israel through a different arrangement.”
Put another way (and to read between the lines), “We will continue to sell our ice cream to the evil oppressors in their own apartheid state, one that was founded on genocide and ethnic cleansing and one that exists to this day on stolen Palestinian land. But we will not sell our ice cream to these evil oppressors who live in illegal settlements in other portions of equally stolen land.”
