PETALING JAYA: Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei have joined forces to get the international community to help resolve the plight of the Palestinian people.
Its three leaders said all must remain resolute in the commitment to safeguarding the two-state solution towards achieving an independent State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“We reiterate our solidarity with, and commitment to the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, and the creation of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine.
“We stand ready to support international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East on the basis of the relevant United Nations Resolutions and international law, including humanitarian law, ” Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said in a joint statement yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: As violence between Israel and Palestine rages on, Malaysia wants the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to “step up” to help the Palestinians.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the OIC could not simply wait for the United Nations to act while more people were being killed.
“We cannot just keep talking, we must show the world that Muslim nations are here to help, ” he said in his address at an OIC virtual extraordinary meeting yesterday.
Calling on the OIC to pressure the UN Security Council to rectify its failure and shoulder its responsibility in maintaining peace and security, he said: “The OIC needs to pressure the Security Council to act urgently, enforce its resolutions and uphold the rule of law.
