Puketapapa local board launches it Business Voice to help support the local businesses Tuesday, July 6, 2021 Paridhi Bakshi
In a first for the Puketapapa local board in Mt Roskill area, a new Business Association - with a vision to promote strong economic outcomes supporting local businesses - was launched on Sunday, July 4, at Fickling Convention Centre.
The event witnessed presence of dignitaries including Mayor of Auckland, Phil Goff, Minister of Transport and Local MP for Mt Roskill Michael Wood, former National Party MP, Kanwaljit Bakshi, and Chairperson of Puketapapa Local board, Julie Fairey, who came together in support of the association.

The Auckland Indian Association honoured their senior citizens over the age of 90 for the second time at a special luncheon on Sunday, June 27, at Mahatma Gandhi Centre.
Twenty three “super seniors” - as they were called for being above than the ninety-year-old cut-off age - were honoured in the event which was attended by around 200 people.
Several dignitaries, including Kanwaljit Bakshi, a former member of parliament, Bhav Dhillon, Honorary Consul of India, joined in the celebrations.
The event commenced with a welcoming speech by Dhiru Bhai Patel, Auckland Indian Association’s Chairperson of Senior Citizen.
Former Tall Blacks basketball coach Steve McKean has died after a short battle with cancer.
Steve McKean and his wife Rache when he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NZ Sport and Recreation Awards in 2016.

McKean was at the helm of the Tall Blacks from 1972-1981 and led the team to their first ever win over Australia in 1978.
He started his New Zealand basketball career with the Auckland Club, Panmure, after arriving from the USA over 50 years ago.
He was an NBL coach for nine years, and during that time he was notably the coach of the first team in the NBL to win 100 games.
