In Oxford, social rent is normally 40 per cent of equivalent private rents. Shared ownership allows for residents to get a foot on the property ladder by buying a stake in their homes that they otherwise would not be able to afford. The new estate’s properties, set to be ready by spring 2023, will range in size from one-bedroom flats to five-bedroom houses. Cantay also said the new estate would be environmentally-friendly, using sustainable materials and integration of renewable technologies. The new homes will be positioned close to a good bus service, the developer said, and it also pointed to plans to re-open the Cowley branch line to passenger services at some point in the future, which could potentially benefit new residents – if it happens.
AN OLD landfill site is suitable for housing, an independent study has found. Oxford City Council wants to build 200 homes on Redbridge Paddock, a field opposite the park and ride on Abingdon Road. The site will be one of the last large areas of land ripe for development within the city. It will be the largest housing development in the city after Barton Park, which will have 885 homes when completed. Development at Redbridge Paddock will be carried out by the council’s housing company, Oxford City Housing Ltd. The council said redevelopment of former landfill sites and brownfield land is increasingly common in the UK as pressure for land increases .
MORE than 2,500 factory-made low carbon houses could be pumped out in Oxford in the near future. The new homes could be modular, meaning they would be made of pre-assembled pieces a bit like giant LEGO, and must also help to reduce the carbon emissions caused by buildings in the city. Oxford City Council’s own housing company Oxford City Housing Ltd (OCHL) is looking for contractors interested in helping it to deliver the homes across Oxfordshire in the next 10 years. To prepare the way for the new houses, the company has issued a prior information notice inviting developers to a ‘meet the buyer’ event, due to take place today (Tuesday, December 15).
