The new colourful mural at the Barton underpass has been warmly welcomed by locals. After the project was delayed due to the pandemic and various lockdowns, Katy Cockram, a trustee of the Barton Community Association, got the scheme back on track in January. The underpass walls were cleaned, and drainage cleared by Oxford Direct Services (ODS). The cleaning revealed some historic graffiti which was painted over by ODS, in preparation for the mural painting.

BROAD Street is set to be transformed into Broad Meadow today, a new town square which is filled with wildflowers and plants. The new outdoor space, pedestrianised temporarily for the summer, is set to be officially opened today (July 1). Susan Brown, leader of Oxford City Council, and Tom Hayes, her deputy, will officially open the new outdoors space. The city council has plans for a high quality programme of community and arts events in the space over the summer weekends, the details of which are being finalised in response to the Government’s expected announcements about the regulations which will be in effect from July 19.
