Katarina Sherbinski, 10, of Norway is a spitfire of a little girl. Since being diagnosed with a mango-sized brain tumor in late February, Kat has had to be fierce for reasons no child should have to be. A GoFundMe circulating hopes to lessen the financial burden on her family as it bands together.

The GoFundMe, titled KatStrong: Helping a child through a brain tumor, is aptly named. Since December, when Kat first started having migraines, she has managed to stay strong.
“One of her teachers sent her a message to stay fierce…she’s a happy kid, she wants to be outside, and she’s going to hold her ground…she’s going to need that strength to move forward.” said Jennifer Sherbinski, a high school teacher at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

OXFORD Selectmen on Thursday night appointed a school board member, accepted a grant and held an executive session on hiring a new town manager.
The meeting, which lasted 15 minutes, was attended by Sharon Jackson, Dana Dillingham and Samantha Hewey, who acted as chairwoman in the absence of Scott Hunter, who was on a fire call. Caldwell Jackson did not attend.
Lisa Dunham was appointed a School Administrative District 17 director. She succeeds David Dunn, who resigned in November after his wife, Joan Davis-Dunn, took a position at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
Dunham, co-owner of Valley View Orchard Pies on Madison Avenue, submitted a letter to the board expressing interest in the position.

LEWISTON Congressman Jared Golden, ME-02, has announced his office’s nominees to the United States Service Academies the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U.S. Military Academy at West Point and U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes Members of Congress.
“This group represents some of Maine’s most talented, skilled and accomplished students. They have all demonstrated exceptional leadership, high academic standards, and a selfless ambition to help others,” said Golden, according to a news release from Golden’s office. “Whatever happens from here, they should all be proud of themselves.
