White Star KARACHI: “Washington is a very happening place, and the good or bad thing about Pakistan-US relations is that there is never a dull moment,” said Dr Asad Majeed Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States during a Zoom session organised by the English Speaking Union of Pakistan (ESUP) here on Friday. Speaking on ‘Pakistan-US relations’, the ambassador said that “We have had some interactions with the Trump administration earlier. But the new administration brings with it very old hands. Hands that know Pakistan well,” he said. “We have faced very unusual circumstances in the US,” he said about recent developments. “The raging pandemic generated an economic [recession]. Then there were the contested elections followed by impeachment votes. So we see an administration that is still not well set in,” he reminded.

The guest speaker at this virtual/physical event was the ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, joining in from Islamabad, to share his views on the foreign policy of Turkey and Turkey-Pakistan bilateral relations. He said that the year 2020 was difficult but it was the strength and resilience of his country and its people, politically, economically and region-wise, which helped them get past the difficulties. He said that since Turkey cannot isolate itself from what happens around it, it has been also lending a helping hand to other countries in the form of humanitarian aid.

Pakistan to benefit from infrastructural uplift under BRI Business December 18, 2020 KARACHI: Pakistan’s economy would benefit from improvement in road and transportation infrastructure under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the SBP’s former governor said on Thursday. “Although the global economy is picking up, the world will never be the same again,” Yaseen Anwar, ex-governor of the State Bank of Pakistan said during a seminar organised by English Speaking Union of Pakistan. “The global economy will revolve around the $2 trillion BRI, climate change and fintech space,” he said. BRI would encompass 65 percent of the world population, 40 percent of global trade and linking over 100 countries through road infrastructure.
