New Delhi, May 19 : Olympic-bound boxers Manish Kaushik and Satish Kumar will skip the Asian Boxing Championships starting May 21 in Dubai as they haven t fully recovered from Covid-19. It is good news for us that Kaushik s latest Covid-19 report is negative. But since he hasn t started normal training, it has been decided that he will skip the Asian meet, a coach associated with the national camp told IANS from Patiala.

New Delhi, May 17 : India s participation in this month s Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai looks doubtful as its 20-member team hasn t got the visas, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) secretary said on Monday.
The competition is scheduled to start on May 21. The Indian team includes 10 women boxers. The Indian men and women s boxing teams haven t got visas to travel to Dubai. We are, however, trying our level best to send the teams, BFI secretary Hemanta Kalita told IANS.

Eumir Marcial revealed Thirdy Ravena wanted to chip in financially to help the Filipino boxer in his bid for a medal in the Tokyo Olympics. The only person who can understand us [the] most/better [are] our fellow athletes. [They are the ones] who understand our sacrifices for the country, Marcial wrote on Facebook on Sunday, May 16.
Marcial said Ravena, who recently signed a multi-year contract with the San-En NeoPhoenix in the Japan B. League, saw his social media posts asking for more support from the government.

New Delhi, May 15 : Half of 10-member women s team is doubtful to compete at the Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai starting May 21 after strict Covid-19 protocols at Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune didn t let them join the ongoing national camp.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had planned collective training for the 10-member squad at ASI ahead of the tournament.
However, ASI has allowed boxers to join only in batches. While five, including MC Mary Kom, had joined till Friday, the remaining five had been allowed to move into ASI only next week.

New Delhi, May 6 : Six-time world champion and Olympic-bound boxer MC Mary Kom won t have personal coach Chhote Lal Yadav by her side at the women s national boxing camp after he tested positive for Covid-19. The camp is supposed to start in Pune this week.
Yadav is undergoing a 15-day quarantine at New Delhi s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It is a difficult situation. Last week my Covid-19 report was negative. Since then I haven t interacted with anyone but my Wednesday s Covid-19 test revealed that I m positive. I was supposed to join the national camp in Pune. But after the positive report, I can t go. I m alright but will have to follow the Covid-19 protocols laid down by Sports Authority of India (SAI), Yadav told IANS.
