The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established through the formal adoption of its charter on December 8, 1985 by the Governments of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In 2007 Afghanistan joined the association as its eighth member. Its secretariat is in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Its declared objective is for the people of South Asia to work together in a spirit of friendship, trust and understanding in order to accelerate the process of economic and social development in the region.
The eleventh summit held in Kathmandu (2002) provided further impetus to the SAARC vision as the leaders agreed to accelerate cooperation in the core areas of trade, finance and investment for the gradual realization of an integrated South Asian economy. ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Feb, 2021 ) :President South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Iftikhar Ali Malik on Sunday said establishment of modern state of art multi billionDollar central business district project would attract foreign and local investors besides generating economic activities in the country.
Talking to a delegation of investors led by Muslim Khan Binowari, he said the government has offered an excellent package of incentives to investors to set up their business concerns in this superb project ideally located in the heart of city.
He said Punjab government on the special directive of the Prime MinisterImran Khan had also chalked out a master plan for timely execution of this project.

As the nation celebrated the second anniversary of operation ‘Swift Retort’ on Saturday, Prime Minister Imran Khan once again offered an olive branch to India amid reports that New Delhi and Islamabad have agreed in “quiet diplomacy” to lower political rhetoric for normalisation of bilateral ties bedeviled by unabated acrimonious exchanges.
“The onus of creating an enabling environment for further progress rests with India,” Premier Imran said on his official Twitter handle while welcoming the restoration of the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC). “India must take necessary steps to meet the long-standing demand and right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination according to the UNSC resolutions,” PM Imran tweeted.
