Chinese commentators have accused the United States of “cognitive warfare” after the US Navy released a puzzling photo.
The photo shows two naval officers, one with his feet up, calmly watching a Chinese aircraft carrier somewhere in the South China Sea. One Hong Kong newspaper said the photo sends a clear message: “We’re watching you.”
“This staged photograph is definitely ‘cognitive warfare’ to show the US doesn’t regard the PLA [People’s Liberation Army] as an immediate threat,” Lu Li-shih, a former teacher at the Republic of China Naval Academy, told the

Chinese Navy Harasses Boat Carrying Filipino Journalists: Report

Chinese navy boats have reportedly harassed a team of Filipino journalists sailing on a boat in a disputed part of the South China Sea, where Manila and Beijing are currently engaged in a stand-off over the presence of a large flotilla of Chinese vessels.
A news team from the Philippines’ ABS-CBN claims that it was chased by two vessels from the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), the first time that a Chinese naval ship has been deployed in such a manner.

Diplomats from the island nation protested last month after 220 Chinese fishing vessels were spotted by the Philippine coast guard near Julian Felipe Reef in the Spratly Islands. Also called Whitsun, the boomerang-shaped reef lies about 175 nautical miles west of the Philippine province of Palawan, and inside the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Saturday told the vessels to sail away and for the Chinese to leave our sovereign territories and abide by international law.
