Watching the
recent
coup unfold in Myanmar has got me thinking
about the famous ‘60s protest slogan ‘the revolution
will not be televised’.
And while Gil Scott-Heron
was not being literal, it seems the opposite is true – or
at least the phrase should be updated to say ‘the
revolution will be captured on social media’.
We saw
this with the storming of the capital in Washington DC and
in Myanmar.
This has ranged from the ridiculous – if
you haven’t seen the clip of workout instructor doing her
thing while tanks roll down the road behind her you should
– to the more poignant.
In fact, it is in large part due to a number of well-functioning, mainly public sector, institutions – like Health, Treasury, MBIE and our defence forces, to name a few. It seems to me these public institutions, which often fly under the radar unless some disgruntled taxpayer is complaining, are like your knees. That is, you only really value them when they cease to work.

Organisers of Wellington’s Chinese New Year Festival
(13-14 February 2021) have added an exciting new component
to the 2021 festival. From 1 February the public will be
treated to the
Chinese New Year Zodiac Art Trail, an
installation of specially commissioned artworks by locally
and internationally based artists around Wellington’s
CBD.
