International research team argues for combining organic farming and genetic engineering

E-Mail For more sustainability on a global level, EU legislation should be changed to allow the use of gene editing in organic farming. This is what an international research team involving the Universities of Bayreuth and Göttingen demands in a paper published in the journal Trends in Plant Science . In May 2020, the EU Commission presented its Farm-to-Fork strategy, which is part of the European Green Deal . The aim is to make European agriculture and its food system more sustainable. In particular, the proportion of organic farming in the EU s total agricultural land is to be increased to 25 percent by 2030. However, if current EU legislation remains in place, this increase will by no means guarantee more sustainability, as the current study by scientists from Bayreuth, Göttingen, Düsseldorf, Heidelberg, Wageningen, Alnarp, and Berkeley shows.

Study: South African Variant Can Break Through Pfizer s COVID-19 Vaccine | The Jewish Press - JewishPress com | Hana Levi Julian | 29 Nisan 5781 – April 10, 2021

Study data on Pfizer s vaccine resistance to South African variant In the first study of its kind to examine the real-world effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine in protecting against the COVID-19 variant originating in South Africa, researchers have found that the South African variant is significantly more likely to break through the protective effect of two doses of the vaccine compared to the British COVID-19 variant. The researchers say that at this stage, the exact reduction in effectiveness cannot be accurately assessed from these data but estimate that the vaccine remains protective against this variant, notwithstanding, that the South African variant has not spread widely, and remains very rare in Israel.

Vaccinated Nursing Moms Produce COVID Antibodies In Breastmilk

An Israeli study has found that vaccinating breastfeeding mothers promotes the production of important antibodies in their breastmilk, potentially contributing to the protection of their nursing babies. The study was conducted jointly by Tel Aviv University and the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov to discover whether the Pfizer/BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine was effective in producing antibodies in breastmilk, and to determine the qualities of these antibodies. The research included 10 breastfeeding mothers in their 30s and took place during January and February 2021, soon after the vaccines became available in Israel. The women received two shots of the vaccine, 21 days apart, and the levels of antibodies in both their blood and breastmilk were tested at four points in time following vaccination, according to the study.
