Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has trained no fewer than three thousand, five hundred and fifty-two (3,552) teachers.
DAILY POST reports that the teachers were trained in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission at the National level.
The primary school teachers were trained under the Teachers’ Professional Development Programme.
Executive Chairman of Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran while speaking after the training said the exercise was structured to herald the new academic session in the state.
Adeniran also said the training was structured to enhance the teachers’ capacity and teaching efficiency in the new session.

NIGERIA has a shortage of 277,537 teachers at the basic level, according to a National Personnel Audit (NPA) conducted on public and private basic education schools in the country.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Hamid Bobboyi, in a statement issued by the commission’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr David Apeh, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, in Abuja, on Sunday.
Bobboyi said the NPA indicated that while 73 per cent of those teaching in public schools were qualified teachers, only 53 per cent of teachers in private schools were qualified to teach.

EXECUTIVE Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC,Dr Hamid Bobboyi, has appealed to stakeholders to join hands with the federal government in ensuring that the quality of teaching and learning at the basic level of education in Nigeria is strengthened for the graduates of the system to be globally competitive.
Bobboyi,who spoke in Abuja ,said even though the year 2020 was very challenging as a result of COVID-19 pandemic that led to lockdown of the country including closure of schools for the most part, the Commission worked hard in many areas including support for provision of e-learning and other response to the pandemic.
