Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Maryland last March, students have largely been learning from home. For many students and parents, that transition has often been frustrating and has seldom been productive.
Some students, however, are thriving, and House Minority Whip Kathy Szeliga has introduced a bill that would have Maryland join the 33 states that now have a full-time virtual option in place for schools.
HB 1170 would allow school systems the choice to partner with companies like Columbia-based Pearson to let students enroll in a purpose-built virtual program, rather than in-person instruction reworked for online learning.
