Clare FM 8th January 2021 Teachers Unions forced the government’s hand last night as they directed their members not to return to work in person on Monday – despite the government’s original decision to provide Leaving Certs with face-to-face learning for three days a week. Leaving Cert Students similarly voiced their concerns about the proposed return to school. However, questions about the Leaving Certificate exams for 2021 are now being raised and questions over the viability of mock exams, practical exams and orals are at the forefront of student’s minds. Coronavirus UPDATE: NPHET to discuss record Covid cases and hospitalisations

LMFM By Ruth O Connell The TUI says it won t be safe to reopen schools for Leaving Cert students next week NPHET will discuss the country s record number of Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations when it meets this morning.   There are now 954 people in hospital with the virus and a further 7,836 cases were confirmed yesterday - with both figures the highest since the pandemic began.  Locally, 340 in Meath were reported. The chief medical officer, Tony Holohan, says the country is likely to see an increasing number of deaths and ICU admissions in the coming days and weeks.      The Teachers Union of Ireland says it will not be safe to reopen schools for Leaving Cert students next week.
