What will temporary virtual schooling be like for thousands?

Article content Ontario elementary students will shift to remote learning for one week after the holidays, from Jan. 4 to Jan. 8. High school students, except for those in northern Ontario, will switch to remote school for three weeks, until Jan. 25. Education Minister Stephen Lecce emphasized Tuesday that the shift is a “one-time” plan implemented as a “preventative measure” to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools after the holidays. The province aims to reopen schools for the remainder of the school year, he said at a press conference. “We want to get kids back in class.” Lecce said he accepts the advice of medical experts, who say in-person schooling is vital for the mental and academic health of students, especially those who are the most vulnerable.

OCDSB sends out remote learning details following lockdown announcement

  OTTAWA The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) has released new remote learning details following Monday’s provincial announcement on lockdowns. Students already attending OCV will continue as usual, the board says.   The board sent the following details to parents and students who will begin online learning in January: Elementary Schools:  Remote learning will occur from Monday, January 4th to Friday January 8th, 2021. During the remote learning period, the school timetable will be followed (start and end time, as well as school established nutrition breaks and recesses). Each day, learning for students will be scheduled based on the daily Ministry requirements for learning using both synchronous  and asynchronous teaching and learning:

BROCKVILLE, Ontario – Upper Canada District School Board  (UCDSB) Director of Education Stephen Sliwa has announced that he will retire on June 30, 2021 after 35 years in the teaching profession. “I am grateful for the privilege of serving students, the Board of Trustees, and the local community during my time as the Director of Education,” said Sliwa. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to provide leadership to staff, who have significantly elevated the operation of our schools and have generated a greater range of partnerships in our community that enhance the experiences of our students.”
