Lax safety practices are fuelling a significant COVID-19 outbreak at the Calgary Cancer Centre construction site, says one of its staffers.
The man, who wouldn’t give his name for fear of being fired, said he’s amazed the site is still open, adding hygiene standards to reduce the spread of infection are poor.
Washrooms that would supply running water aren’t functioning and hand sanitizer dispensers are often empty, he said.
Many workers are concerned the use of personal protective equipment and social distancing isn’t enough to slow the spread of COVID-19 after case numbers shot up from last week, he added.

India’s COVID-19 outbreak has stabilized in parts of the country, a government official said, but deaths rose by 4,194 on Saturday and infections were spreading in rural areas where public health services are scarce and already overstretched.
India reported more than 400,000 infections a day in early May but the numbers have gradually eased. On Saturday, government data showed 257,299 new cases.

A Canadian pastor who has repeatedly clashed with the local government officials over worship restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic is alleging that arsonists have targeted his home and set his garage ablaze.
Appearing on Rebel Media Sunday, Pastor Artur Pawlowski of Street Church in Calgary, Alberta, recalled how the garage at his private residence was set on fire late Saturday night.
“About 11:30 p.m., my wife, she hears some commotions and firefighters, I mean, so many cars and police. And first, we thought … maybe they’re coming for me in the middle of the night. But no, they came to put the fire down.”
