Opposition to a second Japanese patent, applied for in relation to the use of CRISPR methods in cellular studies, has been rejected by the Japanese Patent Office (JPO), reports ERS Genomics, the Dublin-based company providing access to this technology.

Japanese patent (JP6692856), filed by CRISPR/Cas9 intellectual property co-owner Dr. Emannuelle Charpentier, together with The Regents of the University of California and University of Vienna (collectively known as CVC), covers compositions and methods for use in a variety of eukaryotic cells, in either dual-guide or single-guide format.

Maloy, deputy group leader for Materials Science at Radiation and Dynamic Extremes, were named fellows, while D.V. Literacy Efforts Recognized With Congressional Award
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. The Literacy Project, headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif., has been awarded special congressional recognition for its work battling illiteracy in the community.
Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA) presented the award May 26 to Literacy Project Foundation founder and volunteer chief executive Sue Grant during a ceremony held at The Mission Inn in Riverside.
Founded in 2009, The Literacy Project, in partnership with The Regents of the University of California, co-developed the reading game The New Phonics Game. The game helps teach phonetic skills to students that are performing well below English proficiency standards.

Newswise Los Alamos, N.M., May 27, 2021 – Two scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory were named fellows of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and a third was recognized with a special award. Mark B. Chadwick, chief scientist and chief operating officer of Weapons Physics, and Stuart A. Maloy, deputy group leader for Materials Science at Radiation and Dynamic Extremes, were named fellows, while D.V. Our Constitution protects our guaranteed rights such as free speech, liberty from tyranny, and the right to self-governance through our republican form of government. Our shared American identity entrenches in each of us that these rights are worth preserving, but sadly for many Americans today, these freedoms are under attack. When a police officer is fired for donating to a legal defense fund, all who value free speech as a bedrock principle of our Nation should be concerned. This is not an isolated event: our First-Amendment freedoms are under attack elsewhere. We see it when the government overreaches and shutters churches. We see it when Big Tech demonetizes and deplatforms small businesses.
