Land Rover “always said” the Defender would become a family and, in a new interview with
Autocar UK, said that the next member could take the form of a ute. Indeed a version with a tray was rumoured to be part of the plan originally, but the company backed away from it following the launch of the SUV versions. However, the British publication spoke to Jaguar Land Rover’s executive director of vehicle programmes, Nick Collins, who said that a Defender ute is definitely possible and there is enough customer demand to justify building it.

Audi could be gearing up to bring back the short-lived A2 as an all-electric entry model, a report from
Autocar UK is saying, meaning the death of the A1 is nigh. The current discussion at Audi’s headquarters is currently revolving around how to electrify the brand’s entry level vehicles. At the moment the A1 is the cheapest Audi on offer but despite its (relatively) low sticker price of $42,500, it’s not a volume seller. Electrifying the small car will only add to that figure and, considering the public’s general preference of SUVs, it doesn’t really make much sense for Audi to go down that path.
MINI to stop offering real leather in future interiors

In an interview with
Autocar UK, Oliver Heilmer, who is the head of MINI Design, said that the company will not offer real leather upholstery for the interior of its future models. The move is part of the carmaker’s efforts to promote sustainability as it moves on to its next generation of vehicles, echoing similar initiatives by other brands like Polestar.
“We don’t need leather any more in the future, because we don’t believe it’s sustainable. We’re totally convinced that we will have modern and high-value products without leather, said Heilmer, who added that the company has already begun developing eco-friendly interiors.
