Teams are preparing for this weekend’s Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Simona De Silvestro drives for Paretta Autosport and will be the only woman driver in the field of 33 cars. But that’s not the only unique aspect of Paretta. The team is made up of mostly women, about 70 percent.
For the first time, a majority-women’s team is competing in the Indy 500 this weekend. The team is a part of a broader effort to bring more diversity to motor sports. Only nine women and only two Black drivers have ever competed in the so-called “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
Ford wants to show off its new electric crossover, the Mustang Mach-E, to as many people as possible. To that end, it is taking it on a cross-country tour of the US.
The Ocean-to-Ocean Reimagined tour is an homage to the race of the (almost) same name that a Ford Model T won in 1909. In all, the Mach-E will drive almost 6,500 miles over the course of 50 days, stopping in cities along the way to show off the new car.
“More than a century after the Model T brought mobility to the masses, Mustang Mach-E is injecting thrill and passion to fully electric vehicles,” said Jason Castriota, Ford’s global brand director, Battery Electric Vehicles. “Ocean to Ocean Reimagined is helping to amplify awareness around Mustang Mach-E and what it can do.”

A major US fuel pipeline has reportedly paid cyber-criminal gang DarkSide nearly $5m (£3.6m) in ransom, following a cyber-attack.
CNN, the New York Times, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal all reported a ransom was paid, citing sources.
Colonial said on Thursday that it would not comment on the issue.
On Friday, Japanese consumer tech giant Toshiba said its European division in France had been hit by the same cyber-criminal gang.
Price impact
Following the cyber-attack, Colonial announced it would resume operations on Wednesday evening, but warned that it could take several days for the delivery supply chain to return to normal.
The largest pipeline in the US for transporting fuel shut down following a cyber attack.
The attack had an impact on fuel prices and created shortages resulting in some gas stations having to close.
An investing strategist breaks down how investors can capitalize on the attack over the short and long-term.
For six days, a hacker group held the largest pipeline system for refined oil products in the US, Colonial Pipeline, at ransom via a cyber attack.
This resulted in the shutdown of a 5,500 mile pipeline used to transport millions of barrels of fuel between Texas and the East Coast, causing fuel shortages and a rise in gas prices in the south east of the country in particular.
