Ludhiana, April 6
Punjab Food, Civil, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, accompanied by Industry and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora, today inspected the site at Baba Mukand Singh Nagar where the roof of a four-storeyed auto-part factory had collapsed on Monday, killing four persons and injuring seven workers. The roof had caved in while the level of lintel was being illegally raised with the help of jacks (lifting machines).

Three people were killed and several injured as the roof of a building collapsed at Baba Mukand Singh Naga on Daba Road here on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police took stock of the situation after the under-construction roof of a factory collapsed.
NDRF, SDRF, MC and police teams are rescuing people.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said 37 people were rescued and of them three had died. Four people are still feared trapped inside.
Ten people are undergoing treatment at the Civil and Apollo hospitals.
The construction work of the building was under way without permission. The factory owner was reportedly lifting the lintel level without the permission of the Municipal Corporation.

Chandigarh, April 5 : Three labourers were killed and four were still trapped on Monday when an unauthorized under-construction portion of a two-storeyed auto manufacturing factory in Punjab s Ludhiana town collapsed, police said.
Thirty seven labourers were rescued in a joint operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the local administration.
The building is located in a densely populated locality in Mukand Nagar on Daba Road.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma told the media that the lintel on the third floor collapsed when the factory owner was carrying out illegal construction.

The deceased have been identified as Mustakeen and Sagar Kumar, both residents of Bihar, and Peechu and Imtiaz from Ludhiana.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the bereaved families.
