Keep the Faith: Reflections on Easter and its Hymns The Rev. Paul E. Gramit Easter is, of course, the commemoration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. He’d been executed by crucifixion the Friday prior (in spite of being found not guilty). He was not just severely wounded or in some sort of unconscious state; He was actually dead, thus further proven by the spearing of His side, as blood and water came out separated. Likewise, on that first Easter Sunday, the third day (Friday being the first), He who was dead was now alive again, in the same body, yet glorified. He appeared to His apostles, and, later, hundreds of His other disciples also, as we learn from Holy Scripture (1 Corinthians 5:16).
