Maine Police Roll Out New Communication Tool
Maine DPS announced the beginning of a new program that will aide police when they encounter people who have difficulties communicating either because of physical impairments, disabilities, or other cognitive issues that prevent them form relaying information to law enforcement to help resolve encounters that could otherwise escalate.
According to a report by WABI-TV, this program will connect people with disabilities with a contact person that will reside in a database maintained by Maines Department of Public Safety with access available to law enforcement members.
At a press briefing today, Maj. Brian Scott, Maine State Police said:
