MIAMI – Silk Way West Airlines (7L) has prepared thoroughly in recent months and now declares its readiness to take a leading role in the “Mission of the Century.”
Silk Way has already operated more than 100 charter flights to deliver a range of medical supplies during the pandemic, and has now signed a number of ambitious contracts in preparation for the delivery of temperature-sensitive cargo.
According to a 7L press release, to ensure delivery of life-saving freight, the airline supplies are delivered to specially equipped warehouses and are handled by personnel specifically trained for such unique conditions.

LONDON – SIA Group airlines are now among the first in the world to operate flights with vaccinated aircrew, following the move by Etihad Airways (EY).
The first flights with the entire crew vaccinated are flight SQ SQ956, which departed from Singapore to Jakarta (Indonesia) on February 11, 2021, at 9.30 am local time (GMT+8); Scoot (TR) TR606 flight, which departed for Bangkok (Thailand) at 9.30 am; and SilkAir (MI) MI608 flight, which left for Phnom Penh (Cambodia) at 4.30 pm.
The crews of the Singapore Airlines Group have responded very positively; to date, more than 90% of pilots and flight attendants have registered for vaccination.

MIAMI – Qatar Airways (QR) is set to drop its operational costs by around US$1.2bn, following the history Gulf reconciliation agreement. The airline’s flights have been reopened to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain airspace.
During the state television interview on Tuesday, Akbar al-Baker, the airline’s executive chairman said the reopening of airspace following the Gulf reconciliation, will have a positive impact on the company’s financial performance.
According to Akbar, Qatari flights will now take shorter routes. The national carrier will also need more time to return to the level of operations of 2019, before the pandemic.

MIAMI – TAP Air Portugal (TP) has confirmed it would suspend more operations than previously scheduled in February after major cuts in November. The move follows the announcement of new travel restrictions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Compared with the same month last year, TP will suspend 93% of its operations in February, the Lisbon-based carrier said in a regulatory filing on Sunday. It had previously expected a reduction of 73%.
Portugal, which is facing one of the worst outbreaks in the world, declared restrictions on people wishing to fly by air and land abroad on Thursday.
