Andrew Cuomo has been governor for more than a decade, and lately he’s been raising money to run for a fourth term. Even if he had been living in a community of monks for all that time, this would be a terrible plan.
Really, you do not get better at this kind of office with long experience. You just get more and more former supporters who want you to go away so somebody else can have the job. Nobody should ever run for a fourth term. Nobody but F.D.R. should run a third time.
Unions and advocacy groups have also turned their backs on Cuomo, which will hurt him in his pocketbook as well as on the campaign trail. Several, including the AFL-CIO, Hotel Trades, 32BJ and RWDSU, could always be counted on to support his re-election campaigns. Others, like Planned Parenthood, NOW-NYC and NARAL Pro-Choice New York gave the governor the political bonafides he needed to label himself an advocate for women and launch the now-defunct Women’s Equality Party in 2014.
The governor may also face criminal charges. The district attorneys of Albany, Westchester, Nassau and New York counties have stated they will look into opening investigations into the governor’s conduct to assess whether he may be guilty of a crime.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday showed no signs of stepping down in light of an independent report that found he d sexually harassed 11 women, leading to questions about the state s impeachment process and whether it would remove him from office.
The Democratic governor faced increasingly blunt calls for his resignation this week, including from President Joe Biden, U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and other Democratic leaders at state and federal levels of government.
Cuomo denied most of the allegations, many of whom came from female aides working in state government, but said he may have kissed and hugged them at times, or called them honey, darling or sweetheart.
