Lisbon teen charged with attempted murder in stabbing

AUBURN A Lisbon man was charged Wednesday with attempted murder in the January stabbing of a Lisbon juvenile.

An Androscoggin County grand jury handed up the felony charge against Matthew Newton-Fortin, 18, of 244 Lisbon St., Lisbon. The charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
The grand jury also charged him with elevated aggravated assault, which also carries a maximum punishment of 30 years in prison.
Newton-Fortin has remained at Androscoggin County Jail since his arrest in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.

LEWISTON A local man accused of robbing a bank on Sabattus Street on Wednesday told a teller he would shoot her if she didn’t give him $2,000, according to court records.

Nickolas King, 31, of 88 Bartlett St. appeared in Lewiston District Court on Friday via videoconference from Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where he was held in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
He faces a felony charge of robbery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and a misdemeanor charge of violating a condition of his release from jail on an earlier charge.
Judge Jennifer Archer said she would allow King to be released on $1,000 cash bail if he were supervised.

AUBURN Cited as a facility that often exceeds state standards, the Androscoggin County Jail received a perfect score from the Maine Department of Corrections biennium inspection report.

Both mandatory standards and essential standards received perfect scores of 100.
In a letter accompanying the report, Ryan Anderson, manager of correctional operations and one of two people who inspected the facility, congratulated Sheriff Eric Samson on a “very successful inspection.” Anderson thanked the staff for their “hospitality, professionalism and patience throughout the inspection process.”

Andy A. Escarfuller Medina, 22, and Luis Gonzalez, 29, appeared Wednesday afternoon in 8th District Court via videoconference from Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, each charged with being a fugitive from justice.
Medina, 22, who is wanted on a Massachusetts warrant for child rape, waived extradition to Massachusetts, enabling authorities from that state to take custody of him and return him as soon as possible. He is listed as a transient on jail records.
