Popular virtualization software Parallels now supports Apple Silicon in an invite-only Technical Preview with notable caveats.
Parallels showcased an Apple Silicon version of its software at WWDC 2020, but this Technical Preview is the first time the company has made its virtualization app available to M1 Mac users. Parallels is sending invite emails, viewed by
AppleInsider, with installation instructions.
The Technical Preview has some strict limits in its current state. It only works on M1 Macs, and you can only install system images of ARM-based operating systems. Intel-based OS images are not supported.
The only way to run Windows in the Technical Preview is to sign up for Microsoft s Insider program and download the Windows 10 Client ARM64 Insider Preview VHDX file. The Parallels preview will recognize the file and create a Windows 10 on ARM virtual machine.

AppleInsider, lead analyst Samik Chatterjee says that expectations of an iPhone 12 super cycle are running up against headwinds to investor sentiment. That s because, thus far, there s limited data on the potential upside of 5G iPhone shipments.
Although expectations for the iPhone 12 lineup are bullish, Chatterjee says that JP Morgan s research suggests that current upsides will do little to drive enthusiasm for 5G-spurred growth.
That s because JP Morgan is tracking better consumer demand for legacy iPhones, particularly the iPhone 11. Although that has led Chatterjee to raise his iPhone volume to about 237.5 million up from 235.5 million the presence of the iPhone 11 has eroded the mix benefits of the 5G-equipped lineup.

Mozilla Firefox version 84.0 has been released, which includes native support for the new Mac models with Apple s M1 chip. The release notes say that Firefox launches over 2.5 times faster for macOS devices and Web apps are twice as responsive with the Firefox version 84.0. The update includes WebRender, which is rolling out to macOS Big Sur, Windows devices with Intel Gen 6 GPUs, Intel laptops running Windows 7 and 8, and Android users on the Mali-G GPU series.
Despite a lack of clarity about growth expectations for the iPhone 12, investment bank JP Morgan says investors should expect modest returns in 2021 on the strength of wearables, Apple Silicon Macs, and the iPad.

Microsoft has announced that most of its Microsoft 365 apps, previously known as Office 365, have now been updated and are universal apps. Alongside support for Intel Macs, Microsoft s most popular apps will also run on the new Apple Silicon M1. We are excited to announce that starting today we are releasing new versions of many of our Microsoft 365 for Mac apps that run natively on Macs with M1, said Bill Doll, Microsoft Senior Product Marketing Manager for Microsoft 365, said in a blog post.
