The Appleton Museum of Art, a campus of the College of Central Florida, is pleased to announce the exhibit “Memories & Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art,” celebrating the passion of a couple who spent more than 35 years as devoted connoisseurs, building a collection of vivid artworks that are both resonant and remarkably personal. “Memories & Inspiration” is on view at the Appleton from January 30 through March 28.
“Memories & Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art” presents 62 selected works from a body of art amassed over 35 years. Kerry, a retired mailman, and Betty, a former television news producer, gladly gave up many ordinary comforts in order to live with extraordinary paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures as their principal luxuries. Beltz Portable Toilets, a woman-owned company, was official portable toilets provider for the LPGA Drive On Championship presented by Volvik, which was played this past weekend at Golden Ocala. The company is comprised of five women and dedicated to offering hygienic portable sanitation facilities, the LPGA said in a news item, which also noted that partnering with the company was part of the tour s commitment to expanding its diversity, equity and inclusion footprint.

Ocala Symphony Orchestra Chamber Winds: On Feb. 27, the Ocala Symphony Orchestra Chamber Winds will perform Beethoven’s Octet for winds in E-flat and Dvořák’s Serenade for Wind Instruments. Third annual Grit Strength Challenge: The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with CrossFit Iron Legion, will host the annual GRIT Strength Challenge from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 27 at Fort King National Historic Landmark, 3925 E.
