HARIPUR:
Federal Minister for Power Omer Ayub Khan on Monday said there was no load-shedding in Haripur district.
The present power disruption was being caused due to ongoing development schemes in the area, he said addressing the media along with Haripur District Development Advisory Committee (Dadek) chairman MPA Arshad Ayub.

Former finance minister Miftah Ismail said on Sunday that the incumbent government s decision to raise the per unit electricity price by Rs1.95 came in light of the circular debt being at its highest in the country s history, saying the masses will be deprived of another Rs200billion because of the decision. We had left the circular debt at Rs1,036 billion, which included power losses and bank s loan both, and now it has crossed the mark of Rs2,400 billion. Ismail said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday defended the power tariff hike announced by the government on Thursday, saying in an interview that the increase was necessary to prevent the country’s slide into a debt trap.
In the interview with a private news channel, the prime minster emphasised that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had nothing to do with the ongoing Broadsheet saga, because the agreement with the asset recovery firm was made with the then Pervez Musharraf government.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government announced on Thursday Rs1.95 hike in the power tariff, which it blamed on the agreements made by the previous government with “bad-intentions and corrupt practices”.
At a joint press conference with Planning Minister Asad Umar and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Power Tabish Gauhar, Energy Minister Omer Ayub Khan said the government had paid Rs473 billion subsidy to the power sector last year despite economic crunch and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaker National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, has said that the socio-economic, employment and groundwater impact of the Ghazi Barotha Hydro Power Project be assessed at the earliest.
