Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the corpse as that of 43-year-old Jason Rutherford of Peoria.
A toxicology test was pending, but Harwood reiterated no foul play was suspected.
PEORIA, Ill. Peoria Police are investigating a body found just before 6:40 a.m. Sunday morning at the foot of Lorentz Ave.
Peoria Park Police told Peoria Police the body was found in a grassy area between the river and parking lot while conducting routine patrol duties.
A four-wheeler was seen several feet from the body, according to Public Information Officer Amy Dotson.
The body, an adult male, had obvious signs of trauma and was dead at the scene.
PEORIA Peoria police are investigating what happened to a person they found dead near the Illinois River early Sunday morning.
Foul play is not suspected, and initial investigation indicates the death appears accidental, according to Peoria Police Department spokeswoman Amy Dotson. The Peoria County Coroner s Office will later release the identity and manner and cause of death, she said.
At 6:39 a.m., officers responded to Lorentz Avenue just north of the McClugage Bridge on a report of a man whose body had been found by a Peoria Park District Police officer on routine patrol.
The body was located in a grassy area between the river and a paved parking lot. Several feet away from the body was an all-terrain vehicle. The man had obvious signs of trauma and was deceased at the scene, Dotson said.
