Scott County Health Department offering daily J&J vaccine clinic

DAVENPORT, Iowa The Scott County Health Department will begin offering daily walk-in service for the Johsnon & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, May 19.
Officials announced the service on Tuesday, May 18, preparing for the program s debut at 8 a.m. the next day.
Vaccine service will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Scott County Administrative Center in Davenport, where the Health Department is located.

Hospitals seeing average age of COVID-19 patients drop to people in their 30s

The Quad Cities COVID-19 Coalition, which is made up of a group of local health care professionals, said the average age of patients being hospitalized with COVID-19 has dropped.

Amy Thoreson with the Scott County Public Health Department said the average age of those becoming infected is 33 years old.
Dr. Tim Olutade, the Chief Medical Officer at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, said at the end of March into early April the average age of patients being admitted to the hospital was 36, which was down from the previous average age of 60.

Quad City health officials provided updates to the vaccination in the area and held a discussion with two community leaders on the status of the vaccination process in minority communities.
In Rock Island County, Janet Hill, chief operating officer of the RICO Health Department announced that more than 82,000 vaccines had been distributed in the area, with almost 35,000 at the status of full vaccination.
Hill remarks that vaccine supply is solid, and that there are plenty of opportunities to get a shot by making an appointment with various organizations.
Amy Thoreson, director of the Scott County Health Department, then began the discussion on the nature of vaccination procedure in communities of color,, and how they have bared the greatest burden of the pandemic.
