Arunachal CM Pema Khandu.   Two other troubled districts – Changlang and Longding – also need to be included in tourist circuit so that they develop on a par with other parts of the northeastern State, the Chief Minister said. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday assured legislators that the State government would urge the Centre for early clearance of the proposed tourism circuit in troubled Tirap district. Responding to a query by senior Congress MLA Wanglin Lowangdong during Question Hour in the Assembly, Mr. Khandu said the State government had written a letter to the Union Tourism Ministry a few years ago to approve the proposal, which is awaiting clearance from the Union Home Ministry.

Text Size: A+ Guwahati: The commander-in-chief (c-in-c) of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) or ULFA(I), Paresh Baruah, told ThePrint Friday that a “positive result” can be expected in the abduction of two employees of an oil firm, in the coming days. Speaking to ThePrint from an unknown number Friday, Baruah said “the negotiation is going on a good stead” with the New Delhi-headquartered Quippo Oil and Gas Infrastructure Limited, where the two men are employed. “Maybe after two to three days, we can inform the media. We are hopeful to get some positive results,” he said.

Photo: Reuters Security25/Feb/2021 Guwahati: The Assam government on Wednesday extended the existing ‘disturbed area’ status of the state for another six months from February 27 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA). “As per powers conferred under section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, the Governor of Assam has declared the entire state of Assam as ‘disturbed area’ upto 6 (six) months beyond 27/02/2021, unless withdrawn earlier”, according to an official release issued here.
