The City of Fullerton was notified through an Orange County Superior Court filing on March 8, 2021 that former officer Joseph Wolfe has abandoned his appeal of his termination. This follows notification on March 5, 2021 that former officer Jay Cicinelli also abandoned his appeal. Both officers were terminated by the City of Fullerton for their role in the July 5, 2011 beating death of Kelly Thomas, a resident with mental health issues experiencing homelessness.
“I am pleased that this ugly chapter in our history is finally behind the City and our residents,” stated Mayor Bruce Whitaker. “The beating death of Kelly Thomas was tragic on its own, with lasting and continued damage, but the costly and lengthy process to uphold the City’s termination of the involved officers took almost 9 years to resolve.”

After delays due to exposures to COVID-19 while in custody, the retrial of Carson City man Anthony Thomas Garcia resumed at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana on Monday afternoon.
Garcia, 62, is charged with murder and a special circumstances allegation of murder for financial gain in the death of Newport Beach resident Abelardo “Abby” Estacion, 81, in 2015. If convicted, Garcia could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Estacion was found dead on April 11, 2015. Investigators said someone entered his 16th Street home early in the morning and killed Estacion in his bedroom while his live-in caretaker slept upstairs. The caretaker went downstairs in the morning to make breakfast and discovered Estacion’s body in bed with a bloodied face.

An Israeli soldier who launched a $6 million defamation action in America against a Palestinian Christian has seen her legal efforts backfire spectacularly. Although her lawyer urged the US judge to apply Israeli defamation law, which punishes criticism of the Zionist State by up to one year in prison, Rebecca Rumshiskaya lost her case.
Californian Judge Craig Griffin rejected and dismissed the lawsuit as well as the attempt to apply Israeli laws in his Orange County Superior Court. In his ruling, the judge also granted Palestinian Suhair Nafal s anti-SLAPP motion and said that Rumshiskaya must pay the defendant s legal costs. The anti-SLAPP laws are designed to deter people from using the US courts, and potential threats of a lawsuit, to intimidate people who are exercising their First Amendment rights to free speech. A strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP) is one intended to deter freedom of speech, and which the plaintiff usually doe
