3 Read / Add Comments Contrary to popular belief, COVID-19 is taking its toll on younger Americans, who are dying at a historic rate, according to a new study. Research published this week in the Journal of American Medical Association found that Americans between the ages of 25 and 44 have died at a rate that has never been seen in history. During the study, a total of 76,088 deaths were reported in adults between those ages, which was 11,899 more than the expected 64,189 fatalities during that stretch. Of those deaths, 38 percent were contributed to COVID-19. “Although the remaining excess deaths are unexplained, inadequate testing in this otherwise healthy demographic likely contributed,” researchers wrote. “These results suggest that COVID-19–related mortality may have been under detected in this population.”
