Produce myths: Busting the myths of organic vs. conventional fruits and vegetables

It’s reasonably safe to say nobody really
wants to eat pesticides. Unfortunately, they can be hard to avoid as many of our collective favorite fruits and veggies are loaded with the stuff.
Buying organic produce is the easiest way to avoid many types of pesticides, but that comes at a steep price with many items costing three times as much as their conventionally farmed counterparts.
The good news here is that not all conventional fruits and vegetables are grown in the same way. Quite a few, including San Antonio favorites such as avocados, sweet corn, pineapple and more, can be produced without deploying an industrial chemistry set over fields and orchards. And that can mean saving money at the store by passing over pricey organic options.
Cases of double mutant COVID-19 variant detected in U.S.
Double-mutant variant
Health officials are concerned about a so-called double-mutant coronavirus strain that emerged in India and has turned up in a handful of COVID-19 cases in California.
NEW YORK - Variants of the coronavirus are teaming up. Researchers at Stanford University have discovered a new COVID-19 variant with two mutations.
Medical experts are calling it the double mutant. It was first detected in India in March but is spreading quickly.
It has already been discovered in the United States; at least five cases have been detected in the San Francisco Bay Area.
New Double Mutation Variant from India Found In US
April 6, 2021 Researchers at Stanford University have identified a case of a new coronavirus variant with two mutations, which was first detected in India last month. The variant was found in a patient in the San Francisco Bay Area, university officials announced on Saturday.
“We believe this is the first described case with this variant in the United States,” Lisa Kim, a spokeswoman for Stanford Health Care, told NBC News in a statement.
The variant has two mutations in the spike protein of the coronavirus that allows it to attach to cells. Indian health officials first detected the variant last month. The “double mutation” could be of concern if the variant is more transmissible or deadly, but health officials have not yet called it a “variant of concern.”
