Researchers at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Joslin Diabetes Center have now analyzed the genetic makeup of bacteria in the human gut, and linked groups of bacterial genes genetic signatures to disorders including atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACVD), cirrhosis of the liver (CIRR), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colorectal cancer (CRC), and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Data from the gene-level microbiome-disease association study indicated that coronary artery disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver cirrhosis share many of the same bacterial genes. In other words, people with gut microbiota that contain the same collections of bacterial appear more likely to have one or more of these three conditions.

Fact check: does a pint a day really keep the doctor away?

Researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered that a small amount of alcohol, “defined as no more than one alcoholic drink for women and two for men per day”, cut the rate of fatal heart disease when compared “to people from the sample who had low alcohol intake – defined as less than one drink a week”, the Daily Mail reports. The experts said they are “not encouraging people to boost their alcohol consumption”, the paper adds, “but that moderation is the key, just like official guidelines state”. What are the study’s findings? Researchers made the finding after comparing survey results from over 50,000 people and now think it is “likely that moderate alcohol reduces stress signals from the brain”, the Mail says.

Exceptional Skin Agers 378 Words2 Pages Did you ever wonder why some people seem to never age? Researchers at Harvard Medical School paired with DNA analysis company 23andMe studied genetic data from 60,000 women over from a variety of ages and ethnic groups to finally figure out what the deal with exceptional skin agers is. BEAUTY MYSTERY SOLVED By isolated people they deemed to look younger than they actually were without undergoing cosmetic surgery, they found that genes have a lot to do with looking young. Could this solve the mystery confronting thousands beauty-conscious people across the globe? “Ageless” people seem to express differently the approximately 20,000 genes, which focus on cell energy, skin formation, and antioxidant production differently. Interestingly, that expression differs by race with women of African descent having skin that aged 10 years slower than
