Venezuelan diplomat kidnapped: Release Alex Saab!

Nearly a year ago, on June 12, 2020, Alex Saab was pulled off a plane at an U.S. demand for his arrest, during a refueling stop in the Republic of Cabo Verde, a small and very poor island archipelago nation off the West Coast of Africa.
Saab, a Venezuelan diplomat to the African Union, was on a humanitarian mission to Iran at the time of his seizure to arrange emergency shipments of food, medicines and essential supplies for Venezuela. Held in Cabo Verde since then, Saab was held for months in prison in total isolation and darkness and has been tortured.

Republican strategist Karl Rove often advised his clients to attack not the enemy’s weaknesses but its strenghts. The bipartisan US foreign policy disinformation machine has taken Rove’s advice with tedious devotion. So, to attack Nicaragua, the machine’s fabrications and propaganda have targeted some of that country’s strengths: gender equity, Indigenous rights and autonomy, democracy, sovereignty, and a successful response to the pandemic, as well as the Sandinista government’s great popularity.
This should not surprise. It’s the same Rovian method used against Nicaragua’s friends and allies and countries the US designates enemies. Social and political movements that make up the European Solidarity Network with Venezuela expressed their rejection of the measures of pressure adopted by the European Union authorities against the South American nation.
The demonstrations in support of the Venezuelan people and the legitimate government of President Nicolás Maduro are included in a statement released by the Network. In it, the solidarity organizations express their firm condemnation of the decision of the European Union (EU) to declare as persona non grata the Venezuelan Ambassador to EU, Claudia Salerno.
