HealthFirst Family Care Center welcomes Kelley Watkins, APRN June 03, 2021FRANKLIN HealthFirst Family Care Center is pleased to announce that Kelley Watkins, APRN, is joining its team and is now accepting new patients. Watkins received her Master of Science degree from the University of NH and became a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2014. She has a deep passion for and will be working primarily within HealthFirst s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment programs. She strongly believes in taking a whole-person approach to recovery. She has worked extensively with elderly patients from the Medicare population, acute and long-term care of individuals with disabilities and/or complex chronic conditions, children and adults with comprehensive health maintenance, and adolescent and young adult care. Additionally, she is certified to perform DOT physicals for companies/individuals in need.

Community Foundation grant for COVID vaccine equity and hesitancy

Standard-Times NEW BEDFORD – The SouthCoast Community Foundation announced today it is awarding a total of $433,567 from the SouthCoast Emergency Response Fund in its first round of grants to address COVID-19 vaccine equity and hesitancy. The Community Foundation is partnering with city health officials and leaders to invest strategically in Brockton, Fall River, and New Bedford, to ensure that all community members become aware of the benefits, gain access, and get vaccinated.   Earlier this year, the Community Foundation approached nonprofits, city health directors, and community health centers to identify solutions to tackle the disparity between the state average and the local communities average, particularly in communities of color. As of May 14, the fully vaccinated rate in Massachusetts is 43.8%. Collectively Brockton, Fall River, and New Bedford is lower than the state at approximately 31.9%.1  

Fall River launches new COVID hotline and website

FALL RIVER A new hotline and website launching this week is aimed at making it easier for Fall River residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine by answering concerns and linking them to vaccination sites. “It’ll be a one-stop place to see what’s going on, said Meg Rogers, communications coordinator for United Way of Greater Fall River. United Way has partnered with Fall River s Department of Health and Human Services, Mayor Paul Coogan s office and other organizations including United Neighbors of Fall River, SSTAR and Healthfirst Family Care Center to create the United We Help Vaccinate Fall River hotline, found by calling 1-833-8VAXNOW, and FRVAX.com website.
