NSW recorded eight locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking a recent outbreak to 90 infections. Seven of the new cases were linked to Sydney s Northern Beaches where the outbreak originated and one remained under investigation. Health alerts were issued for gyms, bars and cafes, primarily inside the original outbreak area, but also across Greater Sydney. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said despite the remaining risk she was happy to see the number of new cases drop into the single figures, compared with 15 the day before and 30 on Sunday. The threat is there because of the number of venues that have been affected (but) I think to date the policy settings we ve had in place, coupled with the community s response, have demonstrated our strategies are working, she said.
New and updated venues
New venues visited by confirmed cases of COVID-19 include Alma Avalon Restaurant, Macquarie University Soccer Fields, Mona Vale Fitness First, Bondi Icebergs Club (Pool Deck Level), and the MLC building food court. The new advice was released at 9.40pm on Wednesday, December 23.
Anyone who attended the following venues at the following times is considered a
close contact, and must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of whether a negative result is received:

Sydney s Northern Beaches are hopeful of a Christmas Day release from tough coronavirus restrictions after a staggering testing blitz revealed only eight new cases on Tuesday.
Seven of the new cases are directly linked to the Avalon cluster and the eighth is a healthcare worker from western Sydney who is involved in the transfer of patients from the international airport.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian is set to reveal on Wednesday whether the Northern Beaches have been successful enough in containing the outbreak, which will then allow them to have restrictions eased for Christmas.

Supt Hawkins said the total number of interstate passengers who arrived on the Coast on Monday was in excess of 300. However, as of 1am on Tuesday morning, residents coming to the region from greater Sydney, they must go into hotel quarantine for the mandatory two weeks.
