Vic Records 12 New Local COVID-19 Cases

Vic Records 12 New Local COVID-19 Cases Victoria has recorded 12 new locally acquired cases of coronavirus, as the premier warns the state’s five-day lockdown could be extended.  The health department confirmed it recorded 13 new local infections in the 24 hours to July 19 morning, one of which is a case in Mildura, previously announced by authorities.  All the new cases are linked to the current outbreaks of the Delta variant in the state, which originated in NSW.  Victoria also recorded one new infection acquired overseas, currently in hotel quarantine, bringing its total number of active cases to 81. Stay-at-home orders are due to expire at midnight on July 20 but Premier Daniel Andrews has warned they could be extended.

Sydney records another 98 Covid-19 cases overnight

New South Wales has recorded 98 local cases of Covid-19 overnight - including 37 unlinked infections - as Premier Gladys Berejiklian warned Sydneysiders to stay at home to slow the spread of infections.    Of the newly-acquired cases, 20 were active in the community for their entire contagious period and another 17 for part of the time they were infectious.  In a worrying sign the city s outbreak of the highly-contagious Delta variant is still spiralling out of control, NSW Health said 37 of the cases have not yet been linked to known cases.  Ms Berejiklian said 67 infections - more than two-thirds of the new cases - were found in Sydney s south-west.
